Hygienists Help Prevent Gum Disease
The primary goal of our hygienist is to prevent and treat gum disease, which is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults. By incorporating regular professional teeth cleaning into your oral care routine, you can help prevent gum disease and tooth decay.
While visiting a hygienist is not a substitute for a comprehensive dental examination by a dentist, we understand that some patients may not have access to a hygienist at their own practice. We are pleased to welcome patients who wish to utilise our dental hygiene services without needing to see a dentist beforehand.

What to expect
An appointment with the hygienist at Al-fa Paerio Clinic will begin with an initial oral hygiene check-up, followed by a scaling procedure. During this process, any buildup of harmful plaque and tartar will be carefully and gently removed from the surfaces of your teeth and along the gum line.
Our hygienist will discuss your diet, and recommending other preventive measures, your tooth decay can also be slowed down.
Your daily dental hygiene routine
In order to ensure that your teeth stay as fit and healthy between each six monthly visits to our dental hygienist we recommend that you follow this daily healthcare routine.
- You should clean your teeth at least twice per day in the morning after breakfast and just before going to bed at night.
- Use an electric toothbrush for maximum cleaning effect.
- Daily flossing helps to remove plaque and tartar in between your teeth.
- We recommend a tongue scraper to remove any debris on your tongue.
- And of course, regular dental hygiene appointments with one of our experienced dental hygienists to remove plaque and tartar from those hard-to-reach areas.

What can I expect from a direct access hygienist appointment?
To ensure that our dental hygiene team can effectively treat direct access patients, new patients are required to complete a medical history and consent form prior to treatment. Please note that hygienists are not able to diagnose conditions, provide prognoses, or prescribe antibiotics, painkillers, or any medications for symptom relief.
During a direct access appointment, if the hygienist identifies any oral health issues that fall outside their scope of practice, they will inform you and recommend that you consult a dentist. In rare cases, a hygienist may be unable to treat a patient due to concerns regarding the patient’s overall health, medical history, recent surgical procedures, or the condition of their mouth. If you think any of these issues may be relevant, please inform us at the time of booking your appointment.
