Laser Bone Regeneration

In the UK, it’s estimated that more than 45% of adults are affected by gum disease.

From bad breath and bleeding gums to gum recession and tooth loss, there are many unpleasant symptoms the disease can cause.

One you may not know about, though, is bone loss.

The laser periodontal therapy utilised at our clinic, known as the Al-Fa Technique, has paved the way forward for bone regeneration and has encouraged bone formation for many patients suffering from severe gum disease.

Our Laser Bone Regeneration Treatments

Most traditional gum treatments are predominantly centralised around the elimination of bacterial infection. The postoperative result of this type of therapy often depicts gum recession with its associated bone loss. The loss is irreversible and involves much aesthetic oral plastic surgery to correct. Laser surgery, on the other hand, eradicates these types of post-operative sub-standard aesthetic results. Areas treated with lasers eliminate the infection in such a way as to ‘sterilise’ the area being treated. Our specialist team of periodontists are fully trained in using laser technology when performing the process of laser teeth regeneration. The probability of the infection recurring is minimal compared to manual debridement of the infection using more traditional techniques.

Why Choose Laser Periodontal Therapy?

Unlike traditional gum disease treatments which can take several separate appointments, laser teeth regeneration can be done in one session. These sessions usually take a couple of hours, but you’re unlikely to need to have it again afterwards, although you may need to keep up with ongoing routine appointments to maintain your healthy gums.

It’s a particularly good option for those patients who are nervous or fearful of the dentist, as it’s much less invasive. We will always ensure that your mouth has been properly prepared before we proceed with the laser gum treatment, which means numbing the gums so that you’re comfortable throughout. It’s likely that you’ll feel some discomfort after the treatment, but this shouldn’t last for very long.

Laser treatment for bone loss in teeth

This highly precise, minimally invasive procedure is perfect for patients suffering from periodontal disease who need to restore healthy gum tissue and encourage regeneration of the surrounding bone tissue without the need for gum grafting surgery.

The treatment works by targeting diseased tissue and build-ups of bacteria in the periodontal pocket, stimulating gum growth, and promoting bone regeneration.

With no surgery necessary, you needn’t worry about any incisions, and you can look forward to a much shorter recovery.

Horizontal bone loss treatment

For years, Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has been used to help patients suffering from bone loss.
There are two main types of bone loss.

Vertical bone loss occurs when cavities have developed around one or two teeth, resulting in hollows along the roots of the teeth. In contrast, horizontal bone loss occurs along a line of teeth, affecting all of them.

In such cases, bone regeneration isn’t possible with traditional periodontal surgery, and treatment aims to prevent further bone loss.

However, new evidence shows that LLLT has positive regeneration effects for patients suffering from horizontal bone loss.

Why Choose Laser Periodontal Therapy?

There are many benefits associated with choosing LLLT versus traditional treatments, including:

  • Laser teeth regeneration is complete in one session – unlike traditional treatments which require several separate appointments.
  • Laser teeth regeneration is much less invasive than surgery – making it a particularly good option for those who are nervous or fearful of the dentist.
  • Laser teeth regeneration is much more convenient – Unlike traditional gum treatments that need to be completed over multiple sessions, LLLT can be completed in just one appointment, making it perfect for those with busy schedules!

Why Choose Al-FaPerio Clinic?

At Al-Fa Perio, we have created an innovative technique that enables us to elicit a better-than-expected bone re-generation result.

We’ve found that our technique encourages bone cells to regenerate, leading to the re-growth of the bone in the treated area. Hence, laser gum treatments can be used to treat both vertical and horizontal bone loss situations.

We’ve been helping our patients achieve the happiest, healthiest versions of their smiles for decades, and would be more than happy to use our expertise to get your oral health back on the right track!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to recover from laser bone regeneration?

One of the main benefits of this type of innovative treatment is that it only has a short recovery time compared to more invasive gum disease treatments. Typically, you can expect to go back to your day-to-day life after just 24 hours, unlike the several weeks it can take to recover from more traditional types of gum disease treatment.

The main reason for this difference in recovery time is that laser bone regeneration requires no cutting, incisions or bleeding. So, you can go back to eating and drinking how you like soon after.

Does gum lasering hurt?

No. We will always ensure that your mouth has been properly prepared before we proceed with the laser treatment, which means numbing the gums so that you’re comfortable throughout. It’s likely that you’ll feel some discomfort after the treatment, but this shouldn’t last for very long.

Is laser periodontal treatment effective?

Yes! We’re proud to say we’re one of the only dentists to specialise in laser bone regeneration in Essex, and we’ve helped many of our patients to feel confident about their oral health through this type of treatment.

Generally, our laser bone regeneration treatment is successful in eliminating bacterial infection without the unpleasant side effects that are so common with traditional gum treatments. However, this type of treatment isn’t suitable for every patient, so it’s important to have an initial consultation with one of our specialists to determine the best option for you.
